ELECT LELA PERKINS
VICE PRESIDENT, ATU LOCAL 1576

IMG_1135.jpeg

It’s been my honor to serve as your Vice President for the past eighteen months and before

that, as your Recording Secretary since Oct 2020. My path in this Local has been one of

service, solidarity, and heart from my years as a Coach Operator, Shop Steward,

Safety Committee, and In-Service Trainer at Community Transit to representing you as an

Executive Board Officer. Before joining the ATU, I served proudly as a U.S. Army Nurse, bringing more than 30 years of experience in healthcare, management, and labor advocacy to my union work. That foundation of compassion and discipline has guided me in every case, whether defending members in Loudermill hearings, helping with L&I or disability claims, or offering support through difficult personal challenges. Since May, I’ve helped save six members’ jobs, and I consider that my greatest success.

Strong Advocacy. Proven Results.

Working alongside President Dani Julien, I’ve helped negotiate contracts that truly changed lives:
• Transdev Lakewood: Secured strong wage increases and reduced wage progressions for Operators, Dispatchers, and Road Supervisors.
• Transdev Everett: Achieved historic wage gains and an MOU protecting seniority and tenure during the transition to Community Transit.
• Transdev DART: Supported members through leadership changes and upcoming bargaining preparations.
• Island Transit: Helped win life-changing wages and benefits, including a 20% increase in the first year of the new agreement.

Building Strength Through Leadership

I’m proud to have designed and updated our Shop Steward Training Program, resulting in the highest number of active Stewards in our Local’s history covering every property and ensuring members have support when they need it most. Mentoring new Stewards and building future leaders continues to be one of my top priorities.
It’s also been an honor to work with our dedicated officers, President Dani Julien, Financial Secretary/Treasurer Dave Thompson, Recording Secretary Risë Gamble, and our Executive Board members across all properties. Together, we’ve built a strong, unified leadership team committed to every member’s rights and well-being.

My Commitment to You

As your Vice President, I will continue to:
• Defend and protect our members in all workplace actions and investigations
• Expand training and mentorship opportunities for future leaders
• Strengthen transparency and communication within our Local
• Keep fighting for fair wages, safe working conditions, and respect for every member

It’s a privilege to serve you and I humbly ask for your vote to continue this work. Together, we’ll keep building a stronger, more united ATU Local 1576.
